VI COMMANDO

Capt. John Francis Clapton MC, formerly of the Cameronians and then of No.12 (Army) Commando, joined No.6 (Army) Commando as a Sub-altern Lieutenant in No.6 Troop on 11^th October 1943.  On 9^th August 1944 he was promoted to Captain and Troop Commander of No.1 Troop of No.6 (Army) Commando.  On 25^th February 1945 he was awarded the Military Cross for gallantry, being presented with the award by Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery at a short ceremony in Weert on 5^th March 1945.
